After arriving in Coburg (en route to Halifax, and then to Europe), Melville writes briefly to his mother about the group's plans to travel further to Montreal, Quebec. He mentions that, due to the travelling, there may be a slight delay in the mail deliveries.

My dear Mother,
We are now at Cobourg, time 7.40. We will be in Montreal at about 4 o'clock Friday morning and Halifax on Saturday morning. We expect to go directly overseas. All mail not posted at Montreal will be held for two weeks.
