Dear Pug,
I got your letter dated Oct. 7th just a day or two ago. There wasn't an awful lot in it but I was glad to get it anyway. You asked me how I liked France. Well, I came here at rather a bad time, and don't care much for the place. I may say that I like Canada or even England quite a bit better. I haven't seen Brock yet but expect to in a couple of days if he is with the battalion. You must be developing into some athlete since you got 2nd in the high jump at the High School Sports.
We have been out on rest

ever since last Sunday but expect to move again in a couple of days. Every night Howard French and I come down town and get a feed of eggs. There is a Y.M.C.A. in this joint as well as a Church army hut, so we are not altogether out of civilization. How do Thornton's like their new house. I suppose Ikey will have to carry her lunch to school now. I had a letter from a letter from Uncle Harry the other day and one from Mrs. McIntyre.
