My Dear Mother,
I got a letter from you on Wednesday with one from Bill in the same envelope. It is too bad that you can't have a fire when you want to and that you have to spoil the bread by putting other things than flour in it. You are having a little taste of what the English people or the unselfish English people have been doing for months

I suppose there are still some people who don't care how the war is going on as long as they are comfortable themselves. I am on draft now and expect to go up the line shortly. I am hoping to get on the 13th Company, the one that Brock wanted me to go to. The weather here hasn't been quite so rainy for the last few days and I hope it keeps nice until we get used to the way of things up at the front.
