April 17th.¹

My Darling Minnie.

Just a few lines tonight dearest, to say I received two letters from you yesterday, and you may be sure I was glad to hear from you again. I was glad to hear you are having a fairly good time at card parties etc; and am only to glad to know you can play cards, as it relieves the monotonous evenings, and helps to pass the time away cheerfully, and we are always playing cards here. 

Yes dearie I did see in the papers about that Capt: Bailly, he should of got three years instead of months for saying such things about the men who are doing their part in France, and him not even been out here, but I suppose he is one of these "pink-tea" fellows who never was worth much.

I hope you enjoyed the party at Maggie's, I would of loved to of been there with you, and be sure we would of enjoyed ourselves be glad to hear your brother is getting on well, and I hope he likes the military life, I guess the U.S. are sending a lot of troops over just now. I bandaged an American engineer up some time ago, that got wounded in a bombardment we had one night.
