Dearest Minnie

No doubt you are writing to me to day but as I am still in this house alone and on guard I thought I would write you, my "dear little nurse" a few lines. Nearly all the other boys are at church parade, and here am I sitting alone, but I don't mind at all, as I can read and write all I want to, and it keeps me from going with the other guys at nights and also saves my money for when I come down to see you. 

Well how are you getting on dear, and I do hope that tonic the doctor gave you is doing you good, as I don't want you to go home yet as it would be so far away from me up in this far away town or "dugout"; but dear dont think me selfish will you. It has just finished snowing up here and there is quite a lot now nearly a foot and all the sleighs are used now. Have you had your picture taken yet, I'll be so glad to have one when you do, I haven't had time to have one taken yet, but you will have one as soon as I do. I was sitting upstairs with the sick fellow yesterday afternoon watching the visitors go to the staircases as yesterday was visitors day. when to girls came by and looked up and saw us, they asked us if we would like any magazines, so we said yes if it didn't put them to any trouble getting them, so when they brought the books they had a lovely cake, which we enjoyed, but the fun of it was when they brought them they had their soldier fellows with them, and they certainly did look at me when I answered the door, but dearest you won't think I am going out with any will you, as I have only spoken to that one all the time I've been up here, and I don't at all wish to go out with any, as I must keep my promise to you my wouldn't I dearest. There are one or two Simcoe fellows up here I dont know their full names but one is Fred Kidd I don’t know if you have heard of him. 
Well the bugle has just blown for dinner so I guess they will be bringing  mine over pretty soon, and I am beginning to feel that way inclined although I not done anything since Wednesday, 

So dearest I guess I will close now, Remember me to all and write soon to yours ever loving
