My own dearest Minnie.

It is now sunday night so as its too cold to go out I thought I would write a short little letter. 

Well it has turned very cold up here now and the skating is very good, I and another fellow from the ambulance corps were skating yesterday afternoon as we had a half holiday and had a pretty good time, but not nearly as good as last friday week. 

We had church service in the barracks this morning, and the chaplain preached on the opposite balcony to where our room is, and most of our fellows were sleeping all the time, but I was good and listened to every word he said. We haven't heard any more about going away yet, so I guess we won't be going yet, at least for awhile. The soldiers have the job of taking the choir at the presbyterian church tonight but I'm staying in, I think I've stayed in nearly every night since I came back, and intend to stay in most of next week too, as I'm trying to save all the cash I can, as I guess I'll need it when I come back, won't I dear. We are getting on fine with our Red cross work and have all the drill learnt, and most of the bandaging too.

Well dearest I guess I'll finish this letter after I get yours tomorrow noon, as I guess I'll have a shower bath and go to bed. 

Well here I am again, and its nearly half past one. Your lovely letter came this morning and you may be sure I was glad to hear from my dear little nurse again. I was a "mess orderly" or waiter to day and when the fellows came over to dinner, one told me there was a letter from my girl on my bunk, and you may be sure I didn't loose any time when dinner was over, to get back and get it. Am glad you are able to get out skating, is that Mr Weir, the fellow that was skating with the girls the night I was down. I guess he and his chums have a pretty good time, but why don't they join the army, I guess most people look, at the maple leaf badge as there isn't such a lot of them silver plated. 

Why do you go and hear Dr. Pigeon so often, I guess it's because Ruth knows Percy likes him. I'd take that locket to be fixed dear as I haven't any more buttons that size, to be made into lockets, and I guess it won't cost very much to have it fixed, and don't be too late for church next sunday. I don't think I'll wait till I get a German shell to make a ring for you dear, but I'll have to have the size of your finger dearest. I guess Ruth was pleased to hear from Percy again, and I guess he'd hate to join a battalion with a bad name, but the $50 raise would put the idea out of his head altogether.  I guess you would be pleased when you saw about our battalion not going over yet, but I guess we won't be long after the others go. I just wish I was coming down to go with you to Grenadier pond skating, and down town for tea, too, I guess you will be having different food that night to what we generally get, I guess it will be jam, bread and butter and cheese, tonight for supper, as we had, cake and pie extra last night, but dearest don't think we are dissatisfied as I've got good food, all the time. They have a sort of modified conscription in England, but I don't think they will need it out here, but Sadie would get sore if it did, but she would have to put up with it then, wouldn't she dear.

Well we had a route march this morning, and walked about eight miles, just to get an appetite for dinner. 

Why doesn't Ethel's kiltie come and see her now, or have they had a row, or a fight. I guess you can tease her now, as she hasn't any one now, what has become of the one that borrowed the uniform. I'm sure they didn't hear the smash last friday night did they dearest, they are only sore because they haven't anyone to kiss them. I guess Ethel would be pleased to have her socks finished, but, you want to tease her about not having a soldier to give them too. 
 

Now Dear one I guess I'll have to stop this little note for today, so will close with heaps of love and kisses from yours ever loving.
